4:30pm: "Nine Depots for Ten Villages: The Iron Horse in Thompson, 1840-1970."

Bob Belletzkie, noted train historian, will offer a presentation on the history of railroads and facilities, especially train stations, in Thompson.  Bob has been the leader in organizing and cataloguing the Ramsdell Collection.

5:30pm: Introduction to the Ramsdell Collection by Tom Chase and Bob Belletzkie with a video presented by Ed Greenough, US Army Corps of Engineers

The Ramsdell Railroad Collection, generously donated to the Thompson Historical Society by Ramsdell relative Dale King, contains over 7,000 items, an extensive and diverse range of historical railroad, trolley, and ship images, as well as artifacts and memorabilia. The archive was assembled by Frank Ballard Ramsdell and passed to his daughter Alice, who was the last occupant of the Ramsdell Farm before the US Army Corps of Engineers completed the West Thompson Dam. The Corps interviewed Alice in 1993 and a video of some of the interview will be shown by Ed Greenough, USACE.

6:00pm: Opening of the Ramsdell Room.

Visitors will see the Ramsdell collection in its initial stages of processing. Alice Ramsdell, being related to the Tourtellotte and Ballard families, would be pleased to see both the railroad collection and the Tourtellotte Memorial Room open to visitors. She served for many years as curator for the Memorial Room, one of the largest museums in a public high school in the country.

7:00pm: "The Great Train Wreck: Historical Background and Images from the Ramsdell Collection."

Larry Lowenthal and Bob Belletzkie will discuss the circumstances leading up to this disaster and use images and maps from the Ramsdell Collection and other sources to explain what happened. They will discuss the mystery surrounding the death of two and possibly three people in the wreck, and why historians are not sure.

7:30pm: Discussion and closing remarks.
